Cyber Security Tip #2 – Password Length Matters

Which password do you believe is more secure?

!@#$%^&*

or

I Love My Dog!

If you chose “I Love My Dog!”, you are correct!

Why is this?  Password length is an often overlooked option when creating a secure password.  A password doesn’t need to be so terribly complex that you can’t remember it.

Metaphorically speaking, consider your password a “needle” and the number of characters contained in it a “haystack.”  By making your password longer you are making the haystack bigger, thereby making it harder for a hacker to find the needle.

ABC News has a great video explaining this concept:

There is also a website hosted by Steve Gibson that allows you to test how “secure” your password is.  Try it!
